Welcome to Jefferson Middle School!
Hello JMS Families!
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!
My name is Mrs. Tan, and I am delighted to be your child’s 6th-grade Math, Science, and ALD teacher. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and working together to make this a successful and memorable school year.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Los Angeles. I later earned my Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University.
I have more than 15 years of teaching experience working with students from kindergarten through 8th grade. I began my teaching career in the Alhambra Unified School District and joined the San Gabriel Unified School District in 2016. After spending three years teaching at McKinley Elementary, I was excited to transition to 6th grade here at Jefferson.
Outside of school, family is very important to me. My husband and I have two children. Our daughter is currently in her third year at Cal State Fullerton, and our son attends GAB. My husband is also an educator and has taught AP Calculus and AP Physics in LAUSD for more than 26 years. Two summers ago, we welcomed two new members to our family—Kai and Yuki, our playful and affectionate Samoyeds!
This year, your child will be challenged by a rigorous curriculum and held to high academic expectations. At the same time, I want every student to feel supported, encouraged, and confident in their ability to learn and grow. I firmly believe that when teachers, students, and families work together, students can thrive.
I look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year and building a strong home-school connection. Thank you in advance for your support and involvement. I am excited for all that we will accomplish together!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Tan
